BIO-BASED PACKAGING

BIO-BASED PACKAGING HAS BEEN AVAILABLE ON THE MARKET FOR SEVERAL YEARS, BUT IN THE RECENT YEARS NEW ALTERNATIVES HAVE BECOME COMMERCIAL. THESE FILMS CAN CONSIST OF BIO-BASED CONTENT FROM EXAMPLE SUGAR CANES, POTATOES, CORN, ALGAE, WOOD AND ORGANIC WASTE.

POLYPRINT PRIMARILY WORKS WITH FILMS MADE FROM SUGAR CANES (POLYETHYLENE) AND WOOD (CELLOPHANE). BOTH FILMS ARE CERTIFIED GMO FREE AND ARE GROWN AND HARVESTED IN A SUSTAINABLE WAY. THE CELLOPHANE IS ALSO FSC CERTIFIED AND CAN BE CONSIDERED COMPOSTABLE, THOUGH NOT RECYCLABLE, IN CERTAIN COMBINATIONS.

THE SUGAR CANE FILM IS FULLY RECYCLABLE IN COMBINATION WITH CONVENTIONAL POLYETHYLENE- BASED FILMS AND IS SHOWING A SIGNIFICANT CARBON FOOTPRINT IMPROVEMENT. TO THAT THIS FILM ALLOWS YOU TO CUSTOMIZE YOUR PACKAGING TO MEET THE DEMANDS OF YOUR PRODUCT AND PRODUCTION EQUIPMENT.

FOSSIL FREE

IN DENMARK WE HAVE OFFICIAL TARGETS OF BEING COMPLETELY INDEPENDENT OF COAL, OIL AND GAS IN 2050. TODAY PLASTIC IS RESPONSIBLE FOR 6% OF THE TOTAL OIL CONSUMPTION IN THE WORLD, AND THE FIGURE IS EXPECTED TO INCREASE TO 15% IN 2050, IF NOTHING IS CHANGED.

THE BIO-BASED PACKAGING SOLUTIONS ALLOW YOU TO REDUCE THE FOSSIL CONTENT OF THE PACKAGING AND REPLACE IT WITH A RENEWABLE CONTENT.

BY SWITCHING TO POLYETHYLENE BASED ON SUGAR CANES YOU CAN ACHIEVE SIGNIFICANT REDUCTIONS IN THE FOSSIL CONTENT.

CO2 REDUCTION

THE PARIS AGREEMENT FROM 2015 IS CURRENTLY SIGNED BY 185 COUNTRIES AND IS SPECIFYING GOALS ON ACCEPTABLE TEMPERATURE INCREASES (MAX 2 DEGREES) IN THIS CENTURY.

THE EU HAS SET A TARGET OF REDUCING THE GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSION BY 40% TOWARDS 2030, COMPARED TO 1990 LEVELS.

WHEN USING BIO-BASED PACKAGING YOU REDUCE USE OF FOSSILS. ANOTHER POSITIVE EFFECT IS THAT YOU ARE SHIFTING TO NATURALLY GROWING CROPS LIKE E.G. SUGAR CANES WHICH ARE ABSORBING CO2 DURING GROWTH AND THEREFORE HAS A PROVEN POSITIVE EFFECT ON THE TOTAL CO2 BALANCE.

AN EXAMPLE: IF CHANGING JUST 10 TONS (CORRESPOND TO 1.5 MILL. 250G COFFEE PACKS) OF POLYETHYLENE (PE) FROM THE CONVENTIONAL PE (FOSSIL-BASED) INTO A 70% BIO-BASED PE (FROM SUGAR CANES) YOU WILL SAVE 35 TONS OF CO2. THIS CORRESPONDS TO APPROX. 270,000 KM DRIVEN IN AN AVERAGE PETROL CAR (ALMOST 7 X AROUND THE WORLD).
